British Man Claims Broccoli Juice Helped Him Beat Cancer

The media has picked up on the story of Ray Wiseman, a 79 year old man who was diagnosed with bladder cancer five years ago. The prognosis wasn’t good, but five years later, he has been told by doctors that the cancer has stopped spreading. Ray puts this down to a glass of broccoli juice which his wife prepares for him everyday. She adds apples and carrots to sweeten the taste.
Cancer Research are apparently asking for the recipe to carry out further investigations.

Smoothies and Juices: Essential Recipe Handbook

Smoothies & Juices: The Essential Recipe Handbook contains over 250 healthy recipies, with each one providing great pictures and simple instructions. Written by the respected Gina Steer and published by Star Fire, the book looks at a number of recipies that you can make using a juicer, a smoothie maker and/or a blender.
Some of my favourite recipies from the book include Pear and Raspberry Juice, and Cucummber, Apple & Mint Juice. Be warned, quite a few of the recipies aren’t for juicers, but for smoothie makers and blenders. A good book though with some very nice ideas for fabulous drinks. Also, a great touch is that each recipe comes with footnote with a suggested change you can make to create an alternative drink. The rrp is £9.99 but you should see it cheaper if you shop around.
Strawberries, Apples

I made strawberry and apple juice today. I used two golden delicious apples and a bowl full of ripe strawberries. The had a lovely creamly top, and got quite sweet and syrupy as I got into it. I enjoyed it but possibly a bit too sweet for some towards the bottom of the drink.

A friend sent me this pictures of a juice that he says is a great way to start the day: Banana, Orange, Raspberries and Strawberries. Make sure the berries are nice and ripe otherwise it could be a bit too tart.

Orange and Raspberry juice is a bit of a classic, so I thought I’d have a go today and make one and create a little youtube video at the same time.
Apple, Pear, Lime

Ok, here’s one that I suggest you don’t try at home. Someone emailed it to me and said give it a go:
1 x apple
1 x pear
1/2 a lime
I just whizzed it up and it soon seperated with a pleasant froth at the top and a very citric, sour drink at the bottom. I think maybe with it a bit of experimenting it could be a nice drink - maybe less lime or a couple of apples to balance it up a bit better. I’m still recovering from quite how sharp that was!
Grapes, Raspberries, Nectarine and Tomato

So one of the things I love about my juicer is that I don’t tend to follow set recipies as such, although they are very useful and can be really informative, but I like to just see what’s in the kitchen and bung it in and see what I come up with. I just took a peek in the fridge and found half a bag of white grapes, which I don’t think I would have got round to eating, a nectarine and a tomato. I had some raspberries which I was keeping, so I just nicked a handful.

The resulting drink was gorgeous. Pink and creamy, it was jam packed with taste and flavour. The only problem with it was that I got a generous sized glass out of it, but I wanted another one after!

Can anyone suggest a name for this delicious combo? Suggestions in the comments please. Sorry the pictures aren’t up to much, I only had my camera phone to hand.
Look Out For The Baobab

Baobab - remember the name, because it’s a fruit that has just been approved for use in the EU. It has actually been consumed for thousands of years in its native Africa, and now we can give it a go too.
It has a very tough skin - some say as hard as a nut - and contains a powdery fruit inside which is packed with vitamin C, calcium and antioxidants Don’t expect to see it at the supermarket just yet - its not easily edible itself but has been approved for use as an ingredient in juices, smoothies and cereal bars initially.
