Marco Pierre White Russell Hobbs Citrus Juicer

The Marco Pierre White Citrus Juicer by Russell Hobbs is an attractive, brushed steel appliance for extracting juice from citrus fruits like oranges, lemons, limes and grapefruits. It comes with two cones - one large, one small - for juicing fruits of different sizes.
Simple slice your fruit and place down on the reamer. The motor starts up and the cones spins, emptying the fruit of its juice which runs down inside and then comes out of the drip free shout into your waiting glass or jug.
The device seems to be larger than you would think a citrus juicer needs to be, but it works well and is an attractive addition to a modern kitchen.
Philips HR2094 Aluminium Blender

Sometime ago, we pondered the question, what’s the difference between a blender and a smoothie maker? The answer seems to be not much, or certainly there’s no real advantage to a “smoothie maker”. This gimmicky device sometimes adds a tap to dispense the drink but that functionality is not especially useful and just creates another cleaning point.
The difference between a juice and a smoothie is that a smoothie incorporates all the fibres of the fruit or vegetable to create a thicker drink, rather than extracting the juice and leave the pulp out.
The Philips HR2094, in common with many of Philips appliances, cuts an impressive looking figure in any kitchen. Its aluminium casing with LED-illuminated buttons looking cool and modern.
The device itself is powered by 750 watts of power, allowing it to make short work of almost any fruit or vegetables you care to challenge it with. It also crushes ice superbly - perfect for iced coffees or iced slush drinks.
The 1.5L glass jar is dishwasher safe and also there’s a detachable cleaning knife. The Philips HR2094 Aluminium Blender is an impressive bit of kit which opens the door to refreshing healthy smoothies, and also can be used for a multitude of other purposes such as soups and pulses.
So if you want to create decent smoothies, all upi need is a decent blender.
Antony Worrall Thompson Breville JE15 Whole Fruit Juicer

Breville is one of the most innovative names in small kitchen appliances - I must admit, I am a big fan of the Hot Cup - and for this juicer they teamed up with celebrity chef, Anthony Worrall Thompson.
As is expected these days on a juicer in this price range, the JE15 comes with a large shoot for extracting the juice from whole fruits. The time saved in chopping and prepping fruit is a real boon so this is a feature that shouldn’t be overlooked.
It’s powered by a powerful 950w motor which compares very favourably with the 700w motor in the ever-popular HR1861 from Philips. The benefits of a high powered engine is that you extract more juice from the produce, as evidenced by the dryer pulp that’s left over.
A large 1litre juice jug is supplied with it, and the froth separating design will keep the head off your fresh fruit and vegetable creation.
Unfortunately, nobody has invented a really easy way to clean a juicer yet but the JE15 does dis-assemble and re-assemble simply enough so this is about as easy as cleaning one will get.
If you are looking for a smart, powerful juicer for regular juicing at home with a price point of about £100, then the AWT (Anthony Worrall Thompson) Breville JE15 is certainly one to consider.

The Philips HR1861 has for a long time been one of the most popular juicers available, and now Philips have come up with the HR1881 - but what’s the difference?
The first thing to strike you about the HR1881 is the heavy duty, die cast aluminium finish. It’s part of Philips’ Robust range of kitchen appliances and you only have to see and touch it to know that it’s built to last.
The large feed tube has a 9cm diameter so all manner of fruit and vegetables will pass through whole without the need for chopping up. The 1200w motor will make short work of most things you put through and the juice will collect in a generously sized 1.5l jug. Leftover pulp will end up in a 2l pulp container.
Send away the registration card that comes with the HR1881 and Philips will guarantee the juicer for five years, and guarantee the motor component for a massive fifteen years.
Update: The Philips HR1881 juicer was recently given five out of five in a Mail on Sunday product test.

Philips HR2737 Citrus Press Juicer

A point I’ve made several times elsewhere on the site is that one of the most popular types of juice is orange juice, but the centrifugal juicers aren’t really great for orange juice because peeling them is such a pain, especially if they’ve been in the fridge which you’d want to do for a nice cold drink.
So this is where expensive juicers take a step back and instead look at the humble citrus press, and in the Philips HR2737 we have a fantastic bit of gadgetry which you should be able to pick up for about a tenner.
Take your citrus fruit - orange, grapefruit, lemon etc - and simply cut it in half. Place it down on top of the citrus press’s reamer and the Philips HR2737 springs into life, rotating and bringing juice gushing out to be collected below. Lift off and the citrus press stops. Reapply pressure and it turns in the opposite direction to ensure you get all the goodness.
Once you’ve tried it you’ll be embarrased you ever bought orange jucie in the shops. Keep this on the side and some oranges in the fridge and you have a healthy, tasty start to every morning. It’s no suprise that this citrus press is consistently given the 5 star rating at Amazon - it’s really excellent.
And with Christmas coming, this is a perfect stockingfiller juicer for if you’re looking for a healthy gift idea that won’t break the bank.

Jack LaLanne’s Power Juicer Express

First of, who is Jack LaLanne? Jack LaLanne is known in the States at the “godfather of fitness”. He is an expert on fitness, exercise and nutrition as well being an acclaimed motivational speaker. Well into his 90s now, he has put his name to a range of juicers, trying to do for juicers what George Foreman did for the healthy grill.
Jack LaLanne’s juicers can typically be found on home shopping channels and informercials, which to be honest is usually enough to be put me off, but I was interested to see that this actually seemed to get good reviews so I thought I’d take a closer look.
Jack LaLanne’s Power Juicer Express is a sturdy white unit which has a heavy duty 3,600 RPM motor with surgical steel quality blade which the manufacturer claims will give you 30% more juice. It has a wide feeder,so you can get whole fruits down there, and operates at a suprisingly quiet noise level. Cleaning, as always, isnt’ the nicest of jobs but a great tip is always to place a food bag inside the pulp collector so the bulk of it can be lifted straight out and thrown in the bin.
Safety is paramount and the machine will not switch on until all the parts is properly locked into place. The juice produced by the Power Juicer Express is of a very good standard, and of course puts shop bought juice in the shade. Expect to pay about £80 for this juicer, and you will get a quality machine for your money.
Moulinex JuiceMachine Pro JU500815

The Moulinex JuiceMachine Pro is a very good mid range fruit juicer. The vertical whole fruit feeder makes it a breeze to drop in fruits such as apples, oranges and pears with out chopping. Simply drop them in and push down the tube. The 600w engine has two speeds, one for soft fruit and one for the harder. As with almost any juicer, cleaning continues to be the troublesome part but once you’ve done it a few times you soon rind your ryhthm and it becomes an easy task. Like the Breville JE24, it has a large arm which has to lock in place before you can juice, requiring to make sure all the detachable parts are in place properly, which is a nice safety feature.
A solidly built, attractive juicer which will look great in any kitchen. You can pick it up at your usual retailers for around the fifty pound mark.

If you’re looking for an entry level juicer, look no further than the Philips HR1851. This attractive juicer from Philips comes in white plastic and has a powerful 500W motor. Fully endorced by the “Juicer Master”, Jason Vale, the unit comes with one of his books. It has a pulp container with a capacity of 1.5litres and all parts are dishwasher safe.
You might wonder what this doesn’t have that its big brother, the Philips HR1861, has. This unit is less powerful and has a smaller feeding tube so you need to cut the fruit first. Affordable, attractive and easy to use. If you want to dip your toe in juicing, this is a great place to start.

In the same way that that Champion 2000+ has ruled the roost in mastication juicing since the mid 50s, the Santos Classic citrus juicer has been one of the most popular centrifugal juicers since its creation by Santos in France over 50 years ago.
This citrus juicer with its iconic design has been creating top quality juice in french bistros, cafes and restaurants for over half a century, so if you’re looking for a juicer that’s built to last and will help give your kitchen a cafe style ambience, look no further than the Santos Classic Juicer.
You might have actually seen this juicer before. Cast you mind back to the last series of the Apprentice, and the contestants were sent around Marrakech looking to procure a list of items, and the Santos classic juicer was on the list.
The design of the unit is tough and durable, with an aluminium alloy base an an unbreakable sanitary polycarbonate bowl. Usage is simple: just half your citrus fruit and press it into the reamer. You can expect 20 litres of juice from an hour’s juicing.
The Santos Classic is a fantastic juicer for the serious home juicer, or also commercial enterprises such as a hotel, cafe, etc.
